1. Who we are
Knotd is made by YBit Limited (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Knotd mobile app and www.ybitapp.com. It explains what we collect, why, which services process it for us, and how to delete your account.
2. What we collect
| Category | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Name, email address, and how you sign in (Apple, Google, or email and password) | Sign-in and running your account |
| Profile | Username, profile photo if you add one, and your onboarding answers (such as age range, goals, interests, what describes you, daily reading time, reminder time and books you liked) | Your profile, and choosing books and topics for you |
| Learning activity | Books you open and save, reading and listening progress, finished chapters and books, streaks, XP and level, weekly league place, quiz and Bits answers and scores, notes and highlights, and searches | Saving your progress, Continue Reading, streaks, leagues and recommendations |
| Social | Friends and friend requests, quiz challenges, posts, replies, likes and photos in community groups, and what you’re reading if “Show what I’m reading” is on | Social features you choose to use |
| Ask about this book | The questions you ask and the recent messages in that chat | Answering from the book. We don’t save your questions or the answers; we only count how many you ask each day, to apply the daily limit. |
| Purchases | Plan, subscription status, trial and renewal dates, and store transaction IDs | Premium access, restoring purchases, billing support |
| Steps (optional) | Your step count, only if you tap “Allow step counting” on the Walk & unlock card. Steps are read on your phone; the total at the moment you claim a reward is saved with that claim. | The step-unlock challenge |
| Notifications | Push notification token, if you allow notifications | Reminders, quiz challenges and friend activity |
| Device and diagnostics | Device model, operating system, app version, app events and screens viewed, crash and error reports, and a random install ID used before you sign up | Keeping the app working, fixing bugs, understanding how Knotd is used |
| Advertising ID | Collected by the Meta SDK: on iPhone only if you allow tracking when asked; on Android, your device’s advertising ID | Measuring installs and purchases that come from Knotd’s own ads |
We do not sell your personal information, and Knotd does not show ads. Card details are entered with Apple or Stripe, never with us.
3. How we use information
- Provide the app: your account, library, progress, streaks and leagues
- Personalize books, topics and learning paths
- Answer questions in “Ask about this book”
- Process subscriptions and restore purchases
- Send reminders and notifications you’ve allowed
- Find and fix crashes and bugs, and understand how the app is used so we can improve it
- Measure where new installs come from
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Services that process data for us
These providers process data on our behalf to run Knotd. Each handles it under its own privacy policy.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |

| Supabase | Our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions | The account and app data described above |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, push notifications on iPhone | Sign-in, purchase and subscription details, notifications |

| Stripe | Card payments through our web checkout, for purchases made outside the App Store | Your email, account ID, and the payment details you enter with Stripe |
| PostHog | Product analytics | App events (for example a book opened or a chapter finished), screens viewed, search terms, subscription tier, device and app details, app errors, and your account ID. Not your name or email. |
| Sentry | Crash reports | Crash and error reports with device and app details, and your account ID. Not your name or email. |

| Instally | Install attribution: matches a new install to a Knotd link that was tapped | Device and network details at first launch (such as IP address, device type and operating system version); after sign-in, your account ID and purchases (product, price, transaction ID) |
| Expo | Delivers app updates and push notifications | App version and platform when checking for updates; your push token and the notification’s content |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and of Knotd.
5. What other people can see
Other Knotd users can see your name, username and profile photo, and your place in your weekly league. Members of a community group see what you post in it. Your level, books and ranks show on your profile unless you turn on “Hide my progress”, and your current books show in friends’ feeds and on your profile only while “Show what I’m reading” is on. Both are in Profile → Settings → Privacy & Security.
6. Your choices
- Delete your account in the app: Profile → Settings (the gear icon) → Danger zone → Delete account. How to delete your account explains what is deleted and what may be kept.
- Delete by email: if you can’t open the app, write to ybitapp@gmail.com from your account’s email address with the subject “Delete my Knotd account”.
- Edit your profile: Profile → Settings → Edit Profile.
- Notifications: turn them off in Profile → Settings → Notifications, or in your phone’s settings.
- Step counting: off unless you start the Walk & unlock challenge. You can remove the Motion & Fitness (iPhone) or Physical activity (Android) permission in your phone’s settings at any time.
- Tracking and advertising ID: on iPhone, Knotd asks before tracking and you can change it in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings.
- Camera and photos: used only when you choose a profile photo.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your data, and to object to some processing. Email ybitapp@gmail.com.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your account data while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete it as described on the delete account page. Some records may be kept where the law requires it, and payment providers keep their own records under their own rules.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls on our backend systems. No method is 100% secure.
9. Children
Knotd is meant for adults and is not directed at anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you think a child has given us personal data, email ybitapp@gmail.com and we will delete the account.
10. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where applicable: performing our contract with you (running your account and the app), our legitimate interests (analytics, security and fixing bugs), your consent (for example notifications, step counting and tracking on iPhone), and legal obligations.
11. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. We use appropriate safeguards where required.
12. This website
www.ybitapp.com runs no analytics and sets no tracking cookies. It is hosted on Vercel, which receives standard request details such as your IP address and browser type to serve the pages, and it loads fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser stores your light or dark theme choice and cached book covers locally.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the new date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app where appropriate.
